We have successfully completed our short childrens film overall we are satisfied with the outcome. First of all our storyline was as clear as we could make it, this is in the hope that the younger viewers will understand what is happening. Along with this the acting was good, as was the camera work. We had all the necessary shots which we needed and over all the filming process was fantastic.
Having said that the film had its drawbacks too, these mainly came during the editing process, I think due to a lack of organisation and time. The editing makes the clip looked rushed and not professional, having said that our music was great and we believe the audience will be able to understand the story line.
All in all our whole film was a success, the younger viewers will be able to take away various moral's and we hope they will find it entertaining and exciting.

Comparing and Contrasting our main character with a charater from a similar film.
Our main character in our film is Lauren Harrison. Her character is a very jumpy, shy girl that is easily startled when she hears loud noises. This time it was taken too far and she ran away whilst the children were all playing a game of hide and seek. She heard a scream, got scared, ran off and nobody could find her.
Her character in this film is very much like the little girl in Narnia Lucy Pevensi. The children that were in that film were all playing hide and seek and she hid in the wardrobe, found that it lead to some other world and got lost out there and nobody knew it even existed. this gives off the tense feeling about whether they will ever find the little girlwhich is the feeling we are trying to get across to the people viewing our film.

Target Audience
To begin with our film was aimed at a PG audience, but as the filming and editing progressed it began to look more like a U, the acting was very simple and easy to understand as was the props, the set and the whole story line. I believe that there are a lot of morals that can be taken away from our short film. The main one being friendship, it is a recurring theme throughout, the children pick each other up when they fall over play together, laugh together and of course get worried and go looking for Lauren. We were also hoping to make children want to go and play outside!
What our target audience can learn from our children's film?
The target audience for our film is the ages of 3+. Our film is about a group of young friends who decide to play a game of hide & seek to keep themselves entertained. But what starts off as a game turns into a mystery, one of the characters (Lauren) goes missing and is no where to be found in the woods. The three remaining friends search the whole woods in hope of finding her, but there is no sign of her anywhere never the less they decide to continue looking for her and that is where the film finishes. One lesson that can be learnt from our film is that you must ensure you always keep your friends near and safe. If they go missing don't give up looking for them and just think they're okay, you must try your hardest to find them as they'd do the same for you. So the morale of the film is to keep your friends close to you and never give up on them.

Diary Of Editing
Today we are finalizing oue editing process. We've used various soundtracks, transitions and all in all fine
tuned each clip. We have also began making our credits for the film, these are important as we need to
inform the viewers of who was involved in creating, directing, producing and acting.

What Is A Children's Film?
A Children's film is where 'There is no special effort being made to cater for an adult audience.'
There are many limits to age when watching a film U, PG, 12, 15, 18 etc. which restricts younger people from watching older films as certain things are not seen as being suitable for viewers of a younger age.
A children's film is noticed to be for people under the age of 12 as teenagers begin to develop different tastes in films which is when 12a films are introduced by the BBFC- British Board Of Film Classification.
U- Universal...
* Suitable for anyone over the age of five years.
* Suitable for children to view alone.
* Have positive moral frameworks.
* Must offer reassuring counter balancing to any threat or horror.
MUST NOT Include:
* Bad language
* Discrimination
* Drug (s)/ references
* No sex/ Sexual references.
* No weapons.
These types of films (universal) are usually happy and magical films and are easy for a child to follow. The usually consist of Happy music and bright colours- sometimes animated. In most cases, characters are very different from one another which keeps them separated and keeps the audience more attached.
PG- Parental Guidance...
* Suitable for 8 years and over - More grown up themes.
* It is the parents responsibility to decide if their chid is old enough to watch the film.
* Includes some discrimination but only for educational purposes.
* Drugs can be mentioned but NOT seen and then the 'Anti Drugs message must be carried out'.
* May include some horror but short and not intense.
PG films are very different compared to universal films. They are aimed at a much maturer audience, violence will be referenced, not always seen but the consequences will be understandable. There could also be scenes of alcohol or smoking and sometimes swearing, for example; 'Bloody'. The humor in these films may be understood by some, but not others as PG films cover ages 8-12.

Today we went out and started to film our childrens film. It started with an establishing shot of the characters running and playing in the forest, approaching the camera we took 2 takes off this because the
first take the charaters werent in the shot properly from this though we are going to put bits from both
shots together to make a longer shot.
the second shot was a wide shot of the characters coming to a halt in front of the camera
our third shot was medium close up of one of the characters deciding what to do next.
The fourth shot was a high angle shot of the characters playing 'ring of roses' then falling on the floor
the fifth shot was a medium close up of another character on the floor suggesting they play hide and seek
The sixth shot was a medium close up of one of the characters happy reaction.
The sixth shot was of a character saying they will count.
The seventh shot was a tracking shot of the characters reactions.
The eightth shot was a tracking shot of the character counting and the others hiding.
The ninth shot was a long shot of where the characters were hiding.
The tenth shot was a split screen shot which was Jasmine finding one of the people hiding and Lauren hiding behind a tree a peeping.
The eleventh shot was a tracking shot of Lauren running away after hearing a scream.
The twelfth shot was a long shot of Jasmine and Dan running looking for James and Lauren.
When they find James the shot used is a long shot.
The next shot used is when Jasmine, James and Dan all run back to the tree to find Lauren. There is a birds eye shot looking town on the people deciding which way to go to find Lauren. When Dan suggests they go a certain way its stays in the same position and they run off so all that we can see is the floor, Lauren still not found.

Analysis of Toystory
There is one main font style used in this scene, and it is very basic and subtle. This makes the fim appear more child friendly as if it had a deep dark style of font It would intimidate the children and make the scared. The font is shifting slightly in the scene so this again emphasises the simplicity and happiness of the film.
Toystory
There will be fairly limited credits and titles in our scene, however we will more than likely use them at the start and finish of the film, this is mainly to inform the viewers of what is happening and who is involved.
Analysis of Wall-E opening scene
Here is the opening scene to the film 'Wall-E', this is a U certificate film and overall is a fantastic childrens film, containing humor, education and an interesting storyline. The music in this opening scene is very important to the film, it has a real sense of happiness to it and at the same time will keep the young viewers interested. It is quite an old style song, which completely contrasts the space backing scene, this is interesting as it keeps the younger viewers guessing at what will happen next.
Wall-E opening Scene
With our own Children's film, I hope to create a similar effect. Our film is set in the woods, so it needs to have a mysterious feel to it, but along with this the characters are young and find everything fascinating so this needs to be reflected in the music which we make. I dont think that sound effects are going to necessery as we are going to try and achieve an old style theme to it.
Our Mis-en-Scene
The props which we are going to have in our film are Dan having a cap, Jasmine having a teddy bear,
James having a lunch box and glasses, and Lauren having glasses and a lollipop.
The costumes that we are going to be wearing thrughout our childrens film are as follows;
- Dan= Shorts, socks pulled right up, boat shoes and a hoodie. Dan will also have the cap on.
- Jasmine= White dress, Black knee high socks, black plimsoles, denim jacket. Her hair will be in two
pigtails.
- Lauren= White dress, Black knee high socks, black plimsoles, denim jacket. Her hair will be in two
pigtails. Her glasses pushed towards the bottom of her nose and has to keep pushing them up.
- James= Jeans, plimsoles, long sleeved t-shirt and will have his hair gelled into a middle parting.
Also wearing glasses the same as Lauren.
Jasmine and Lauren will have a very little amount of make up on, but a lot of blusher on the cheeks.
The lighting in our film is going to be natural as we are filming in the woods.

Animation Idea's
We are thinking of doing an animated childrens film, and have been looking at different types of these animations. Our animation will include voice overs and a funny storyline. There are various different ways of editing and we are thinking of using something that children can relate to like toys or household objects, maybe even fruit! It is hard to employ a malicious incentive into animation, which makes it great for children in the U certificate. Our storyline will of course have an incentive which will educate kids and they will enjoy it too. The film will not be scary or have nudity or drug relations in it as this is not appropriate for the given certificate. Here is an example of an animation which we looked at.

Analysis of a U film
U- Universal suitable for anyone over 5
A U film is said to have a positive moral framework. Also a U film has to be suitable for children over the age of 5 to watch without their parents and understand the story-line on there own.U films do not consist of bad language,drugs, sex or any sexual references and discrimination.
This a U children's film. This is a happy and magical film and easy for children to follow if they are watching it on there own.It consists with lots of bright colours and happy music. All the characters are different from each other which keeps the audience more attached to the film. There is one character that is shown to bring humor to this film as he looks to be clumsy, this will keep the children entertained as they will find this funny. We think this has done well as a children's film with its fairy-tale story-line.

Analysis of A PG Film
PG - Parental Guidance
A PG film is very different from a U certificate film, it is aimed at a more mature audience so has various different features. It is the parents responsibility to whether they allow there child to watch a PG, the film may refer to Drugs but shouldn't show them. Discrimination is permitted but should only be used briefly and for an educational purpose. It may also contain a horror scene but this scene should be short lived and resolved. Basically it has a more adult theme to it but shouldn't scare the young viewers too much.

Pirates of the Caribbean
This film is a PG as it contains quite a mature story line, it has various scenes of violence, recurring scenes of the main character (Jack Sparrow) drinking alcohol, smoking, frequent swearing i.e. 'Bloody'
and overall a more adult style. This film would be aimed at children above the age of 8 for the reasons i have listed, it isn't really suited for children below this age as both the content and humor is more advanced than they are used too.

Science fiction film
This film is set in a big city and from this you can already tell that there is going to be alot of action and chases.The music behind the trailer has a very steady drum beat throughout the man talking and a lot of shooting sounds like things are flying about. This gives the idea that the film is going to again be a very action packed film.
The clips that we are shown in the trailer of this film also show that there is going to be quite a lot of fighting scenes between the iron men. This is mainly shown towards the end when it shows all the people jumping down and the iron man is surronded and says 'lets fight'.
The part in the trailer where the hologram is shown shows that this is going to be a very technical film in the image of creating this iron man.
Analysis of Action Film
Alien Vs Predator
This film is based in a hidden temple which was thought not to exist. As the characters go deeper into the temple they end up fighting against various Aliens etc.....
The reason this is a good action film is because it contains a lot of action/fighting scenes all of which contain various camera angles and backing tracks which give a feel for action.
The first scene of action we see, is very clear as there is a very long build up and when the action eventually happens it is very frantic, the camera angles are very unsteady and the music is very fast, this is followed by gun fire which as a whole makes the scene a lot more gripping.
This theme continues throughout the whole film which shapes it up to being a great action film.
A science fiction film has many features that differ from adventure, these features usually relate to a futuristic scenario. They usually include modern technology or advanced civilization. The reason being is to create an image for the future.
An adventure film differs completely. They usually contain fictional scenarios and characters, they are usually aimed at younger audiences. The reason being is because the younger generation find these types of film more enjoyable as they can usually relate to the storyline.
An example of a good science fiction film is 'Terminator 3', whilst this film is set only a few years in advance the technology is completely different. There is a lot of new machinery which completely change the feel of the film, for example, there are flying robots which shows the viewers that it is futuristic and advanced.
On the other hand, an example of an adventure film would be 'The chronicles of Narnia', this is completely fictional but for younger viewers is very gripping. It is set in a snowy world which exists on the other side of a wardrobe. This is a good adventure film as it's very imaginative and really captures the younger generations imagination.

Editing of opening scene of Jumanji
For this film we looked at the editing done throughout the opening scene. There were various different editing effects used, all in a continual fashion. There were cut shots used throughout and also some parallel editing. On top of this there was diegetic sound. These types of editing were used to create tension amongst the scenes and make the film appear more exciting and interesting.
The film includes various micro-elements such as, upbeat music, storyline that is simple and easy to understand and a basic plot. There was drama in the opening sequence, when one character put a shoe through a blender, this keeps the audience amused and want to continue watching the film. The film also has a meaning to it, from what we see at the start the boy is being bullied, and the farther tells the son to 'face his fear', this is designed to teach young viewers not to be afraid of others!

Between the four people in our group, we have decided that 'A Bugs Life' was our favorite Childrens film. We decided this, as it has all the elements that should be used in a Childrens film. It has a simple plot with happy upbeat music. This film also includes bright and colorful scenery with funny looking characters, which will instantly grab the audience's attention.
We decided this as it stood out when we were young children. It has a good blend of funny, happy and interesting scenes which have stayed in our mind. This shows that the film is very successful childrens film and captures their imagination.
